8 winds of magic

Kislevite Ice Magic, however, does involve the Ice Witches drawing on what are, essentially, non-Chaos warp entities that are collectively seen as the spirits of Kislev. The eight winds, and magics derived from them (High Magic and variations of Dark Magic, which at the very least include the Lore of Vampires which is a specialised form of Dark Magic drawing mostly from Shyish) represent magic as it is possible to be wielded without tapping into some form of 'spirit realm', be it the Realm of Chaos or the Great Green. This is not to say that those eight winds do not exist empirically, however they are clearly not the only way that magic can be approached in warhammer. The idea of the eight winds of magic is mostly a High Elves concept (and presumably Dark Elven at least), which they have exported to at least the Empire through Teclis' institutionalizing them in their Wizard Colleges. It's generally best to think of 'lores' of magic as actually local cultural traditions that often are associated with one or two ethnic or cultural groups. 2K A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia.844 A Total War Saga: Fall of the Samurai.
